| Parents how would you punish your guy for doing drugs? Our twin daughters recently had their 17th birthday party at a nice hotel in Manhattan. My wife and I went out of our way to get the 2 presidential suites for their teen lingerie/pajama party theme. We ended up spending about $24,000 for a 6 hour party. We set boundaries (they are good guys with good friends) but one of the parents of a guy who was at the party called us today to inform us that their was heavy use of cocaine at the party. Our daughters fessed up to us and told us that they each did about a gram of cocaine. My wife and I are at a loss of words because these aren't the type of guys who would be involved in such messes. How should we punish them? |
| No offense but if each of the girls used about a gram of coke that night, it wasn't the first time they tried it and while they might not seem like the type to be involved in something like this they already are. Their friends are already involved in this. Like their friends parent said that is heavy use of cocaine. Not to mention each gram would cost upwards of $20 so where did they get the money from? I don't know how effectively you could punish 17 year olds for using drugs but you may want to explore some options on how to educate them on the dangers of what doing drugs are. Perhaps a counselor from a local rehab center could help. This is not to say that your daughters are addicts for doing this but you certainly don't want them to repeat this again. Talk to them and let them know how you feel, let them know that you will not stand for any drug use of any kind in any place while they are living under your roof. Any indications that they are using will result in them losing privileges and that they will have to seek treatment. Also they should probably not be hanging out with these same friends in an unsupervised environment. The other things you could do is look into taking them to an Open meeting of Cocaine Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous that way they will see people who's lives have been severely affected by drugs and alcohol, maybe they will see that even recreational use or use on "special occassions" could lead to a full fledge addiction. Openmeetings are designed for people to be able to see what goes on, to hear the stories of the people who have fallen down into addiction. It might open their eyes to the fact that any drug use is dangerous and can lead down some dark paths. Cocaine can lead to other drugs and all of this could bring them from Park Avenue to the Park Bench. It is great you want to do the right thing and that you are outraged over this, you have a right to be. Good luck to you. |

| Do your young teens shop for clothes from the guys section? My daughter who just turned 14 still shops at the guys section and I hope she stays that way for at least another year. She is the youngest in 9th grade and most of her friends (most of them who are 15) are already wearing clothes and lingerie that are too sexy (such as those from victoria's secret). Most guy stores (such as abercrombie guys & limited too) go up to young-mid teen sizes. I find those guy stores stylish enough, sometimes even sexy for a young teen.
